70th Independence Day Celebrated in St. Thomas College

70th Independence Day was celebrated in St. Thomas College with great enthusiasm and fervour. This August 15th became a day which enkindled a renewed commitment to the Mother India. Accompanied by Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil, the Director of the college and Pathumabi Sahira, the Principal; the Chief Guest Ex. Master Warrant Officer, Ananthraj Jain, of the Indian Air Force, hoisted the National Flag. The students saluted the flag with respect and love and sung the National Anthem with devotion to the nation. The Chief Guest, being a proud son of the soil, who has a dedicated service history in the Indian Air Force, exhorted the students and staff to keep alive the flame of patriotism with a renowned passion. He shared his service experience with the students giving them a blaze of nationalistic feelings and aspirations. “Yaad Karo Kurubani” was the Independence Day quiz programme, conducted after the formal programmes; for the students to enkindle in them the spirit of national integration and love for the country. It was an opportunity to remember the events, persons, and the history that shaped our country into a powerful Independent Nation. Mr. Shrikanth B.S., the N.S.S. Officer of the college proposed the vote of thanks to the dignitaries and the participants.

Student Council Inauguration 2016:

Student Council Inauguration Progamme was organized on 5th August 2016 with an objective to motivate the future leaders.  Fr. Binoy A J Malikayil, Parish Priest of St George’s Church Ujire and the Associate Director of DKRDS, the social work Organization of the Belthangady diocese was the resource person for the programme. The chief guest motivated the students reminding them of their roles and responsibility in the smooth functioning of the college. All the members of Student council were taken oath which was administered by Ms. Pathumabi Sahira, the Principal of the college. The elected leaders were honoured with flowers. Rev Fr. Jose Valiaparambil, Director of St Thomas College, presided over the function. Mrs. Molly D’souza , Welfare Officer of the college welcomed the guest and the participants. Robin Thomas, newly elected President of Student Council, thanked all. Rose Paul and Sonu Jossy were the anchors of the programme. The new Student council was formed through a detailed election process.

Ramzan Celebration at St. Thomas College

St. Thomas College celebrated Ramzan Feast on 16-07-2016 Saturday. The Chief Guest, Mr. Iqbal Bellare, the member of Iman council Karnataka, addressed the students and spoke about the major beliefs behind the celebration. He wished all the staff and students the blessings of the celebration. In his presidential address College Director Rev. Fr. Jose Valiaparambil exhorted the students that they must be a model for the Society through respecting all the religious beliefs and through participating in the joy of each and every religious believer. Thereafter Students served a delicious food for all who gathered, Biriani was served as a special item, denoting the Muslim Custom and taste.

Farewell Function to Rev. Fr. Veerus Maxim Concessao, former Principal of St Thomas College. 15th July 2016
Adieu to Fr. Veerus Maxim Concessao was held on 15th July 2016. The New Principal Ms. Pathumabi Sahira welcomed all. Most Rev. Bishop Lawarence Mukkuzhy presided over the function. In his speech he thanked all the developments and initiatives taken by Fr. Veerus for the betterment of the college during his service. Lecturers Mr. Shrikanth and Mrs. Molly D’souza shared their views about Fr. Veerus. A power presentation highlighted the various moments from Fr. Veerus’ tenure at college and its development during his tenure. The Director of St Thomas College, Fr. Jose Valiaparambil thanked for all the new changes which was initiated by Fr. Veerus. Cultural programs were arranged to make day more charming. Robin was anchor of the function, Ms Meenakshi, the Lecturer in charge of Cultural activities proposed vote of thanks.

St Thomas College celebrated its Patron’s Day on 9th July 2016

To honor the Patron saint of the College, ST THOMAS DAY was celebrated ayt college hall. Chief Guest was Fr. Tomy Kallikat. He explained the gathering, about the life of St Thomas and the position of this saint in the Catholic belief. Those students, staff and Rev. Fathers, bearing the name of St. Thomas were honoured by the celebration committee by giving flowers. Ms Jasmine of the II BCOM did introductory speech about the celebration of St Thomas Day . Guest along with staff members by cutting cake and distributing it enhanced the joy of the celebration. The program was presided over by Fr. Jose Valiaparambil, the Director of St Thomas College; who greeted all who gathered. Ms. Pathumabi Sahira, the Principal; gave a good message. Cultural programs enhanced the beauty of the programme. Ms. Sangeetha of the II B. Com anchored the programme. Rose Paul of II B. Com welcomed the gathering and Robin Thomas of the III B.com thanked all who supported the feast celebration.

Witnessing a day of fun and frolic, and of discipline and expertise, the Thomasites outshine with excellence and brilliance. The Fete was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Mascarenhas, the Parish Priest of Ujire, with prayers and blessings. Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrence Mukkuzhy. Bishop of Belthangady inaugurated the Music festival with words of encouragement, appreciation and Almighty God's blessings. The formal program was presided over by the Chairman of the Kalpatharu Education Trust, Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil.

Women's Day Celebration

Organized a Women’s Day Programme at ST.THOMAS COLLEGE on March 8th, 2016.
Women’s day Celebration is a time to reflect on the struggles women face and commemorate the accomplishments they have made. Mrs. Cicilia Tauro, Program Coordinatior of Dakshina Kannada Rural Development Programs Belthangady, was the resource person for the programme. She in her speech educated the students about the history of women’s day celebration and how women’s can raise their voice for their rights. Pathumabi Sahira in-charge of Prevention on Sexual Harassment cell in her presidential address encouraged the students by sharing her views on how a girl can become vocal and active. Mrs. Vijayalaxmi, Lecturer, to make the students enthusiastic, sang a heart touching song. Mrs. Molly Dsouza in-charge of Women and Gender Sensitivity Cell shared the stage with the eminent guests. Ms. Jasmine of 2nd BCOM was the anchor the programme.

World Day of Social Justice
THALUKU KAANUNU SEVEGALA SAMITHI, VAKILARA SANGHA organized a ‘NYAYA DINACHARANE’ programme at ST.THOMAS COLLEGE

Mr.Raghavendra, Senior Judge of the Civil Court and JMFC, Belthangady inaugurated the programme, and in his inaugural speech he spoke about the importance of having the knowledge of general law of India. Smt Arunakumari, Judge of the Civil Court and JMFC, Mr.Subrahmanya kumar Agartha, President of Lawyers Association, Advocates Mr.Shashikiran Jain, Mr. Shivakumar, Mrs.Swarnalatha were present to enhance the spirit of the gathering with their instructions and sharing with students. Mrs. Mamthaj Begum, Mr. Vasantha G Markada, Vice President of Lawyers Association. Mr. Shivayya, Secretary of lawyers association, Mrs. Manjula John, president of Sangama Mahila Taluku Okkuta, were also present. Advocate Mr. Shivakumar gave detailed information relating to RTI and its importance to the students.

NSS Camp 2016

NSS camp was held on 9th January, 2016 at the Government Primary School, Kuntalpalke, under the able guidance of Sir. Srikanth, B.S., Lecturer. Altogether 37 students participated with vigor and hard work for 7 days and 6 nights in the camp area. The works taken up by the students were:
• Leveling the play ground
• Landscaping and weeding the school grounds
• Cleaning the surroundings
• Visiting houses
• Cultural Programs in the evenings
• Industrial visit accompanying the children of the school

Sports Day 2016

The Sports Day was graced and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Saleen, Director of START English and Communication Centre, Belthangady. The occasion was additionally light up by the appreciation and accompaniment of Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil, Chairman of Kalpatharu Education Trust, Belthangady. The Principal, Lecturers and Staff of the College along with the able guidance of the PD Trainer Sir. Sudhakar and the Students Sports Secretary Mr. Joseph Sebastian organized the events of the day.

Cleanliness Drive at St. Thomas College
No Swach- Bharath without having cleaned your own home, your own neighborhood, your work place and even more your own place of education.

NSS and Red Cross unit together organised cleaning campaign programme on 26-09-2015. More than 50 volunteers participated in this cleaning work. NSS and youth redcross officers guided the cleaning activity. Student went as far as cleaning even along the Belthangady – Bengaluru highway.

Onam Celebration
Onam, the festival of kerala was celebrated in the college on 29thaugust 2015. All malayalee students of our college organized the programme. Students and staff of our college and kalpatharu nursing college were present for that occasion. The flower column (Pookalam)was made beautifully and colourfully with flowers. The Chairman of management Rev.Fr.Jose Valiaparambil gave the message about the tradition of onam feast.

RAMADAN CELEBRATION
Ramadan was celebrated in a splendor on 23rd July, 2015 in the college hall. Chief Guest of the function was Mr.Riyaz vice president of Byari Foundation, Bantwal. He explained the five main principle of the Islam like Shahadath Kalima, Namaz, Fasting, Zakath and Hajj. He also expressed his deep sentiments of joy and encouraged the students towards Unity and Peace. The programme was presided over by the Principal of the college, who expressed his concern for the well-being of humanity, cultures and religions.

Earn and Learn
St. THOMAS ACADAMY OF RESURCH AND TRAINING (START)

We the B.B.M students Prashanth, Blessy, Neenu, Mary john, Shilpa and Sudharshan went for a marketing campaign in Kuthlur and Shirlal as a part of our BBM training. We inaugurated start program with Fr. Jose vellyaparambil and Fr. Salin by lighting the lamp. It was our first marketing experience. We put a stall and started our sales in St .Thomas church Kuthlur. The people showed their interest in the products, viz. Jeevan tea powder.

NSS group is the vital organ of the college society. A group organised and fully functional towards taking care of the social responsibility of the student body. We congratulate Mr. Srikanth for taking up the new responsibility as the Program Officer. We thank the previous Program Officer Miss. Pathumbai Sahira for her strenuous efforts in setting up the NSS unit in the college. Mr. Suresh, Professor, Kunjathbail Govt. Elections 2015
Elections for the President and Vice-President of the student council was held on 1st July, 2015. Prince Matthew has been elected as President and Mohammed Irshad as Vice-President. Prince Matthew won by just 10 votes. The Event has been a ‘much awaited for’ one. Students have had an opportunity to exercise their franchise as adult citizens in the college circles. This sure does create in them a disposition to exercise their right to vote in the general elections. Wow! This is my great India; when properly guided, they show utmost respect and discipline – even in elections. These students witness to the ability to ‘so quickly adapt’ to the quality living.

Ugadi Celebration 2015
Ugadi is the Indian Traditional New Year, which marks the start of the month Chaitra of the calendar Panchanga. Bevu-Bella (ಬೇವು-ಬೆಲ್ಲ) symbolizes the fact that life is a mixture of different experiences (sadness, happiness, anger, fear, disgust, surprise), which should be accepted together and with equanimity through the New Year. The Occasion was graced by Mr. Dhinakar Adhelu, RSS pramukh and enlightened the students about importance of preserving our traditions. The Principal in his speech brought out the need of the hour to promote inter-religious dialogue and to respect and cherish each others cultures, traditions and religion.

The Principal in his annual report briefed about the Mission and Vision of the Institution to educate the students of the locality and to always strive for integral development of the students.The focus this year was to create opportunities to the students not to Academics alone but to areas where each explore one’s special abilities. In view of this goal, Event Managers club, Costume Designing club, Music club, Photography and Videography was introduced. They have remained in rudimentary form up to now, but has gained considerable response from the students.

Costume Designing
It is an art to design what you wear. In the movie 'Devil Wears Prada' , the designer, Miranda Priestly says: "'This... stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select... you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff." It is easy to comment and belittle the designing sense, but we don't realize that we owe so much to these talented minds for the tremendous contribution they make to what we wear every single day.

Sports Day 2015

The Thomasites poured out their energies on the field with vigor and excitement. They participated in Discus Throw, Sprint events, Javelin Throw, Short put, High Jump and a number of other events. The Sports Day was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Abraham Patteril along the Chairman Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil. The event managers took the commentary stand and the arrangements of the whole day event. It was a day to witness the talents of the Students especially on the Sports fields.

The Annual Special Camp of NSS Unit of St. Thomas College was Inaugutaed at Govt. High School Shalethadka of Kalenja Village on 28th Dec. at 3.00 p.m. by Niddle Panchayath President Sri Balakrishna Devadiga. The inaugural meeting was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil, the Chairman of the Kalpatharu Education Turst. Sri Prashanth, Lecturer welcomed all. Miss Phathumabi Sahira, NSS Officer gave introductory speech. Rev. Fr. Veerus Concessao, the Principal, St. Thomas College, addressed the gathering. Mrs. Rathna, the Head Mistress of the School, Sri Jayachandra Gowda, Member, Grama Panchayath Niddle, Sri Sundara Gowda, President School Betterment Committee, Sri Vishwanath Gowda, Ex-Army, Mrs. Indira and Sri Rukmayya Gowda were present. Miss Phathumabi Sahira, Sri Prashanth, Miss Meenakshi, Sri Srikanth, Sri Sudakar, Miss Chithrakala are guiding the camp. There 41 NSS members are participating in the camp. The will conclude on 3rd Jan. 2015 at 4.00 p.m.

After the iaugural ceremony there was various cultural programmes held to find out the talents of the students.

Mangalore University, St. Thomas College Belthangady, NSS Unit, inaugurated on 11.07.2014 by Dr. Kumar Hegde, Associate Proffessor, SDM. College Ujire. He spoke with personal experience in NSS. He motivated the young leaders to develop a personality with selfless service minded attitude. The vision of Mahatma Gandhi has to actualized through NSS. The progress of India depends on the rural development. The meeting was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil, Chairman, Kalpatharu Education Trust. The NSS Programme Officer, Ms. Pathumadi Sahira welcomed the gathering. Ms. Princy introduced the Chief Guest and Mr. Robin expressed the vote of thanks.

The Annual Day Celebration of St. Thomas College held on February 15, 2014. Most Rev. Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop of Belthangady and Patron of the College presided over the meeting. Sri K. Vasantha Bangera was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil, Chairman, Kalpatharu Education Trust, Rev. Fr. Joseph Mattam, Administrator, kalpatharu Educational Institutions, Mr. Joseph Kalapura, the Principal, Students Council Exccutive members were on the Dias. In his address Mr. Vasantha Bangera exhorted the students not enter into politics during their student period and not use mobile phones. He encourged the students to build a corruption free society. Bishop in his presidential address pointed out the ways for their better achievement and integral development of their personality. Management members, staff, parents of the students and old students were present. Students performed colourful cultural programmes in the afternoon.
