70th Independence Day Celebrated in St. Thomas College

Independence Day was celebrated in St. Thomas College with great enthusiasm
and fervour. This August 15th became a day which enkindled a renewed
commitment to the Mother India. Accompanied by Rev. Fr. Joseph Valiaparambil,
the Director of the college and Pathumabi Sahira, the Principal; the Chief
Guest Ex. Master Warrant Officer, Ananthraj Jain, of the Indian Air Force,
hoisted the National Flag. The students saluted the flag with respect and
love and sung the National Anthem with devotion to the nation. The Chief
Guest, being a proud son of the soil, who has a dedicated service history in
the Indian Air Force, exhorted the students and staff to keep alive the
flame of patriotism with a renowned passion. He shared his service
experience with the students giving them a blaze of nationalistic feelings
and aspirations. “Yaad Karo Kurubani” was the Independence Day quiz
programme, conducted after the formal programmes; for the students to
enkindle in them the spirit of national integration and love for the
country. It was an opportunity to remember the events, persons, and the
history that shaped our country into a powerful Independent Nation. Mr. Shrikanth B.S., the N.S.S. Officer of the college proposed the vote of
thanks to the dignitaries and the participants.

Student Council Inauguration 2016:

Council Inauguration Progamme was organized on 5th August 2016 with an
objective to motivate the future leaders. Fr. Binoy A J Malikayil,
Parish Priest of St George’s Church Ujire and the Associate Director of
DKRDS, the social work Organization of the Belthangady diocese was the
resource person for the programme. The chief guest motivated the students
reminding them of their roles and responsibility in the smooth functioning
of the college. All the members of Student council were taken oath which was
administered by Ms. Pathumabi Sahira, the Principal of the college. The
elected leaders were honoured with flowers. Rev Fr. Jose Valiaparambil,
Director of St Thomas College, presided over the function. Mrs. Molly
D’souza , Welfare Officer of the college welcomed the guest and the
participants. Robin Thomas, newly elected President of Student Council,
thanked all. Rose Paul and Sonu Jossy were the anchors of the programme. The
new Student council was formed through a detailed election process.

Ramzan Celebration at St. Thomas College

Thomas College celebrated Ramzan Feast on 16-07-2016
Saturday. The Chief Guest, Mr. Iqbal Bellare, the member
of Iman council Karnataka, addressed the students and
spoke about the major beliefs behind the celebration. He
wished all the staff and students the blessings of the
celebration. In his presidential address College
Director Rev. Fr. Jose Valiaparambil exhorted the
students that they must be a model for the Society
through respecting all the religious beliefs and through
participating in the joy of each and every religious
believer. Thereafter Students served a delicious food
for all who gathered, Biriani was served as a special
item, denoting the Muslim Custom and taste.

to Fr. Veerus Maxim Concessao was held on 15th July 2016. The New Principal
Ms. Pathumabi Sahira welcomed all. Most Rev. Bishop Lawarence Mukkuzhy
presided over the function. In his speech he thanked all the developments
and initiatives taken by Fr. Veerus for the betterment of the college during
his service. Lecturers Mr. Shrikanth and Mrs. Molly D’souza shared their
views about Fr. Veerus. A power presentation highlighted the various moments
from Fr. Veerus’ tenure at college and its development during his tenure.

Organized a Women’s Day Programme at ST.THOMAS COLLEGE
on March 8th, 2016.
Women’s day Celebration is a time to reflect on the
struggles women face and commemorate the accomplishments
they have made. Mrs. Cicilia Tauro, Program Coordinatior
of Dakshina Kannada Rural Development Programs
Belthangady, was the resource person for the programme.
She in her speech educated the students about the
history of women’s day celebration and how women’s can
raise their voice for their rights. Pathumabi Sahira
in-charge of Prevention on Sexual Harassment cell in her
presidential address encouraged the students by sharing
her views on how a girl can become vocal and active.
Mrs. Vijayalaxmi, Lecturer, to make the students
enthusiastic, sang a heart touching song. Mrs. Molly
Dsouza in-charge of Women and Gender Sensitivity Cell
shared the stage with the eminent guests. Ms. Jasmine of

World Day of Social Justice
THALUKU KAANUNU SEVEGALA SAMITHI, VAKILARA SANGHA
organized a ‘NYAYA DINACHARANE’ programme at ST.THOMAS
- Mr. Srikant, Lecturer in Economics
Mr.Raghavendra, Senior Judge of the Civil Court and JMFC,
Belthangady inaugurated the programme, and in his
inaugural speech he spoke about the importance of having
the knowledge of general law of India. Smt Arunakumari,
Judge of the Civil Court and JMFC, Mr.Subrahmanya kumar
Agartha, President of Lawyers Association, Advocates
Mr.Shashikiran Jain, Mr. Shivakumar, Mrs.Swarnalatha
were present to enhance the spirit of the gathering with

NSS Camp 2016

NSS camp was
held on 9th January, 2016 at the Government Primary
School, Kuntalpalke, under the able guidance of Sir.
Srikanth, B.S., Lecturer. Altogether 37 students
participated with vigor and hard work for 7 days and 6
nights in the camp area. The works taken up by the

NSS and Red Cross unit together organised cleaning
campaign programme on 26-09-2015. More than 50
volunteers participated in this cleaning work. NSS and
youth redcross officers guided the cleaning activity.

expressed his concern for the well-being of humanity,

Earn and Learn
St. THOMAS ACADAMY OF RESURCH AND TRAINING (START)
the B.B.M students Prashanth, Blessy, Neenu, Mary john,
Shilpa and Sudharshan went for a marketing campaign in
Kuthlur and Shirlal as a part of our BBM training. We
inaugurated start program with Fr. Jose vellyaparambil
and Fr. Salin by lighting the lamp. It was our first
marketing experience. We put a stall and started our
sales in St .Thomas church Kuthlur. The people showed
their interest in the products, viz. Jeevan tea powder.

discipline to evoke the seriousness and commitment in

Talents buried under the bushel are no talents at all.

attempt has been, especially this day, to unearth the
precious, the rare, the unique abilities hidden in the
students of the College.
The seniors welcome the juniors into the college
community in their own special way. Games, singing,
dance, a snack treat are some of the means students
discover to build social relationship with one another,
especially with the fresh comers.

is the Indian Traditional New Year, which marks the
start of the month Chaitra of the calendar Panchanga.
Bevu-Bella (ಬೇವು-ಬೆಲ್ಲ) symbolizes the fact that life is
a mixture of different experiences (sadness, happiness,
anger, fear, disgust, surprise), which should be
accepted together and with equanimity through the New
Year. The Occasion was graced by Mr. Dhinakar Adhelu,
RSS pramukh and enlightened the students about
importance of preserving our traditions. The Principal
in his speech brought out the need of the hour to
promote inter-religious dialogue and to respect and
cherish each others cultures, traditions and religion.

Thomasites poured out their energies on the field with
vigor and excitement. They participated in Discus Throw,
Sprint events, Javelin Throw, Short put, High Jump and a
number of other events. The Sports Day was inaugurated

commentary stand and the arrangements of the whole day
